Returning to Classes

TO STUDENTS ON THEIR RETURNING TO CLASSES

by Eric Chaet

Hope that you are eager
to learn the wise ones’ ways,
that you don’t fall distracted
into the common daze.

Hope that you are skeptical:
question all you hear!—
if told all good is far away
or old or new or near.

Every teacher isn’t wise—
neither are all fools.
Many people lose their way
while others gain, in schools.

Cada profesor aspira a ser sabio aunque alguno resbale y sea tonto;

TO TEACHERS ON THEIR RETURNING TO CLASSES

by Eric Chaet

Hope this finds you happy
tho your foes presume you beat.
Hope you have good clothes for cold
& your children lots to eat.

Hope that you’ve been studying
what others think passé,
that you’ve uncovered secrets
on your solitary way.

Hope that you’re dissatisfied,
hope that you’re intense,
hope that you get better paid,
& not one student’s dense.

inconformes, descontentos…
Espero que esten mas pagados,
y ni un alumno este quieto.
