6 Resentment

by Eric Chaet
Humanity—
a species
most members
of which
live & work in hives
but some don’t
spinning &
orbiting a star
in turn
orbiting galaxy central
& the galaxy is likely
on the move, too
at constant speed
or slowing
or speeding up—
mainly divides itself
into those with too much
& those with too little
the latter group
desperately pushed & pulled this way & that
by necessity & rumor & false information
tossed into wars among one another
or into competition for jobs that will kill them
but not before they turn a profit for someone else
& the greatest enemy of those with too little
aside from rampaging enforcers & other virulent pathogens
is resentment
however justified
which corrodes
the ability to distinguish between mere chance & conspiracy
& to see one’s own shortcomings & discipline oneself
learn practice pursue opportunities despite everything
to struggle tho disadvantaged
while aging
& attenuates the value of every invigorating miracle
such as skies, symmetries, harmonies
the sincere affection of highly imperfect companions
& of every horribly imperfect opening
out of this or that trap or situation
into which one has been tossed
by some maddened or punch-drunk mob
thru which one might by shrewd navigation
& earned sustained flexibility
improve at least one’s own situation
& also thereby gain more ability to help others
if their resentment has not so taken them over
that they won’t allow help
(& if the help we gain the ability to offer is not delusional).
