7.8 Lucky For Me

Lucky for me
I didn’t get famous
for some pose
I’d have to maintain
ease
confidence
importance
achievement
& lucky for me
no group allowed me
to become part of the deal
they had going
some privately organized
venture
large or small
legal or illegal
or so-called public institution
or agency
so I don’t have to
keep following protocol
defined & redefined all the time
by all my deluded & frequently panicky superiors & peers
or field every inquiry or complaint
from people we’d been assuring
that serving them was our top priority
& we knew what we were doing
so I can see who I really am
that I’m not all I wish others thought of me
not all I’d hoped to become
not yet
& not dead yet, either
& I still may experience awe, gratitude, relief, delight
maybe love, maybe sustained a while
comprehension
& I still may accomplish a thing or two of real value to others
& a thing or two that need doing for myself
or I’ll be dying sooner than otherwise
that no one else is going to do
& that I’m not capable of doing, yet
& experience the sense of accomplishment
no pretense
lucky for me.
